Court halts lithium mining at Grota do Cirilo, Sigma Lithium share falls
A Brazilian judge ordered the suspension of environmental permits and mining activities at the Grota do Cirilo mine after Quilombola communities filed a lawsuit and a prior free and informed consultation was deemed necessary. The order triggered a decline of about 12.6% in Sigma Lithium's share price. Sigma Lithium has listed as a "Foreign Exempt Issuer" on the ASX under the ticker SAU with CDIs; trading commenced on 3 September 2026 and each CDI is equivalent 1:1 to a common share. Sigma Lithium resumes operations after TAC agreement and reports record quarter
Sigma Lithium signed a TAC agreement with the state of Minas Gerais that enables the full resumption of mining and industrial activities and foresees investments of around USD 1 million as well as fines of up to USD 540,000. The company reported record results for Q2 2026: net revenue of USD 55 million, an EBITDA margin of 47%, realized prices up 17% to USD 2,089/t and production rising 50% to 35,400 t, accompanied by significant cost reductions.
