Indian Supreme Court quashes tax demand of 1,781 crore rupees against Tata Steel
The Supreme Court of India declared the 1,781 crore rupee tax demand against Tata Steel void and set aside two orders from 2025. The demand comprised 890.52 crore rupees in taxes, the same amount in penalties, and interest; Tata Steel had argued that the input tax credits were legitimate and that the order was time-barred or issued without jurisdiction. The court, however, allowed authorities to initiate a fresh proceeding under section 74 of the CGST Act if needed, and any resulting order must be issued by February 28, 2027. » More on de.investing.com

Tata Steel had already challenged the demands through lawsuits, and the disclosure of the summons was made in accordance with SEBI disclosure obligations. » More on de.investing.com
Tata Steel's Llanwern runs at half capacity after quota increases boost cheap imports

The shortfall in orders has forced downtime and maintenance work, putting jobs at risk and threatening viability of the Llanwern site. Tata warns prolonged pressure could jeopardise its wider UK transition to an electric arc furnace and green-steel plans; the government will review quotas by July 2027 while monitoring impacts. » More on theguardian.com
