Volvo warns of higher costs from EU strategy to decouple technology
Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson and Stellantis CTO Ned Curic warn that an overly extensive break from US technologies could lead to higher costs and lost market share for European automakers. Volvo enables Gemini to access EX60 exterior cameras to interpret parking signs
Volvo will let Googleâs Gemini access the EX60âs external cameras via Android Automotive to interpret parking signs and other roadside information. The feature uses the EX60âs onboard Nvidia Drive AGX Orin processing and overâtheâair updates, and aims to provide parking time limits, permit needs and contextual navigation cues. Volvo and Google say the system could expand to recall signs, read lane markings and reference nearby landmarks, though accuracy and testing will determine realâworld reliability. » More on theverge.com
Volvo plans new lower-cost EV for US after EX30 discontinuation
Volvo will introduce a new electric model in the US in 2027 aimed at the same compact, affordable segment the EX30 occupied, though it may not match the EX30âs originally advertised price. Company executives said the EX30 was discontinued for multiple reasons including tariffs that raised its US price and a battery recall, and the new vehicle will offer more interior space while remaining engaging to drive. Volvo is meanwhile launching the EX60 in the US this summer as its only current North American EV offering. » More on theverge.com
