Austrian Airlines reports an EBIT deficit of €94m for H1 2026, which it mainly attributes to sharply higher jet fuel costs following the Iran war. To reduce costs, the long‑loss‑making Vienna–Graz route will be discontinued; flights to Tiflis, Keflavik and Porto and some late connections will also be paused. Revenue rose four percent to over €1.2bn and passenger numbers were up six percent to almost seven million; management expects the airline to return to profit in 2026 despite the burdens. Austrian Airlines has removed the free allowance for a small cabin bag with its new Economy Basic fare and is strictly enforcing carry-on dimensions of 40 x 30 x 15 cm. Stricter gate checks and high additional fees have led to consumer lawsuits; VKI and AK Wien criticize the practice as unreasonable.
