FTC and 20 states sue Dollar General over years of alleged checkout overcharges
The FTC and 20 states filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee accusing Dollar General of routinely charging customers more at checkout than advertised prices on shelves and ads. Dollar General leans into $1 value offerings and delivery as shopper pressure persists
Dollar General expects core customers to remain under pressure through H2 2026 as inflation and fuel costs drive more frequent visits but smaller baskets. The retailer is expanding its $1 assortment and Value Valley displays, while growing delivery—which added 40 basis points to Q2 comps and brought over 1 million new customers into stores. Management remains confident in 2028 targets of 2%–3% same-store sales growth and a 6%–7% operating margin, citing margin recovery, supply‑chain productivity and non‑consumables growth. CEO Todd Vasos will step down in January 2027, with JJ Fleeman tapped as his successor. » More on finance.yahoo.com
Dollar General raises fiscal 2026 outlook after strong quarter; tariff refunds lift earnings
Dollar General reported better-than-expected quarterly results with 3.5% same-store sales growth and raised its fiscal 2026 same-store sales and EPS outlook to about $7.80–$8.00, including roughly $0.25 benefit from tariff refunds. The company saw category-wide growth, improved traffic and shrink metrics, and authorized up to $700 million in share repurchases. Management warned the tariff-refund boost is temporary and expects elevated transportation and fuel costs to pressure margins in the second half. Analysts raised price targets, but investors should monitor how earnings and margins perform once the refund benefit fades. » More on finance.yahoo.com
