J.Jill posted Q1 sales of about $144 million, down 6%, and adjusted EBITDA of $16.7 million versus $27.3 million a year ago as gross margin fell 350 basis points. Management said the brand and product transition is in an early stage, noted pressure in the direct channel from lower conversion and markdowns, and cited roughly $4.7 million in tariff-related gross profit headwinds for the quarter. J.Jill reports weak Q4 and outlines 2026 investment-driven turnaround
J.Jill said Q4 softness was driven by an assortment that missed and heavier-than-expected holiday promotions, with customers shifting to promotional buying in the direct channel. Management named new merchandising and growth chiefs, plans product modernization, targets younger core customers and will invest in marketing, AI-powered merchandise planning (Anaplan) and roughly five net new stores. Fiscal 2026 is a year of deliberate investment, with guidance assuming total comparable sales down 3% to down 1% and near-term pressure from about $9m incremental tariff costs; tariffs net of offsets are expected to rise to $15m for the year. The company refinanced a $75m term loan to 2030 and expects inventory placement and assortment changes to drive gradual improvement starting in Q2 2026, with larger benefits from planning tools in 2027. » More on finance.yahoo.com
