  • Metro turns self‑pickup into combined store-and-delivery business

Metro is converting its cash-and-carry stores into combined sales and handling hubs to bring market sales, deliveries and digital ordering channels together under the “sCore” strategy. Delivery to hotels and restaurants now generates around nine billion euros—almost one third of sales—but requires additional space, staff and logistics costs. Metro is increasingly relying on KPIs, digital tools such as the “Pick and More” app and changed employee skills, while the group, after several years of losses, describes the transformation as an investment in a fragmented, price- and service-driven procurement environment. Steffen Greubel sees the model as a “stable solution space” for customer needs, but profitability is not yet achieved across the board. » More on faz.net

  • Metro Bank posts record profit of £98m and confirms turnaround

Metro Bank reports a historic profit of £98m for fiscal year 2025 after previous years of losses, marking a successful turnaround. Revenue rose 16% to £585m, net interest margin climbed to 3.17% and the cost-to-income ratio improved to 81% thanks to a 7% reduction in operating costs. Capital ratios were significantly strengthened (total capital ratio 26.1%) and management expects ROTE to increase to above 13% by end-2026, above 15% in 2027 and above 18% in 2028, supported by cost discipline, asset reallocation and a revaluation of treasury holdings. » More on de.investing.com

  • Metro grows after delisting despite weaker German business

After withdrawing from the stock exchange and the entry of Daniel Křetínský (around 68 percent), Metro significantly reduced its product range and cut sales space in Germany. In fiscal year 2024/25, currency‑adjusted revenue rose 5.8 percent to 32.4 billion euros and EBITDA increased 8.6 percent to around 1.2 billion euros. Growth came mainly from delivery and the digital business; Metro is strengthening delivery activities through the acquisition of GVS and aims for further expansion under the "Score" strategy. For 2025/26 the group plans revenue growth of 3–6 percent and an EBITDA increase of between 50 and 150 million euros. » More on wiwo.de
