Jockey Club criticised over secret 2018 option to sell Kempton to Redrow
The Jockey Club holds an option granted in 2018 that would allow Redrow to buy and develop Kempton racecourse for housing, potentially ending racing at the profitable all‑weather venue. The revelation has provoked criticism over the Club’s secretive decision‑making and apparent conflict with its royal charter duty to act for the long‑term good of British racing. Changes in government planning law could make development easier, and the option runs until 2028 with limited scope to extend. Supporters warn the sale would sacrifice a historic and commercially important racing asset. » More on theguardian.com
