Select Medical acquired by management consortium for $3.9 billion
Select Medical was acquired by a consortium led by Executive Chairman Robert A. Ortenzio, Martin F. Jackson and Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe for $16.50 per share, totaling about $3.9 billion. The purchase price represents an 18% premium to the closing price on November 24, 2025. The merger becomes effective on July 1, 2026, after which the common shares will be delisted from the NYSE; the current managers will remain in place. J.P. Select Medical forms joint venture with Carilion Clinic for 50-bed rehabilitation hospital in Roanoke
Select Medical will be the majority owner and operator of a new 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, to be built on 9th Street SE. Construction is planned to begin in spring 2026, with opening slated for spring/summer 2028; the new facility will replace a 34-bed acute rehabilitation unit and will specialize in neurological rehabilitation for stroke, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injuries.
