First trial against Signa founder René Benko in Innsbruck begins over alleged diversion of assets
René Benko must answer at the Innsbruck regional court in two cases in which he is accused of having put assets aside in the period before the insolvency: a rent and operating-cost prepayment of around €360,000 and a gift of about €300,000 to his mother declared as a "loan repayment." Benko has been in pretrial detention since the beginning of the year and denies the allegations; the verdict could come as early as Wednesday. Signa estate administrators demand 126 million euros from KPMG Austria
The estate administrators of Signa Development Selection (SDS) and Signa Prime Selection (SPS) are seeking nearly €126 million from KPMG Austria in an out-of-court liability conference over allegedly negligent annual audits. Around €72 million relates to SPS and €54.58 million to SDS; KPMG is accused of failing to identify illegal cash‑pooling, inflated rental payments and the associated revaluation gains. The administrators also demand repayment of audit fees for 2019–2022 and consider the audits worthless. KPMG rejects the allegations and says it will refute each point. » More on kurier.at
