Spotify introduces QR-code check for Premium Family subscription to curb account sharing
Spotify will in some cases require that secondary users of a Premium Family subscription scan a QR code shown in the primary user’s app within seven days to continue using the plan. If they do not scan, those users will be barred for 12 months from joining other Family or Duo plans, but can still sign up for an individual subscription. The measure is intended to ensure that Family members actually live in the same household; Duo subscriptions are apparently not affected. » More on golem.de

Co-CEO Alex Norström described the measure as an ongoing routine improvement to close loopholes as users find ways to circumvent verification. The code refreshes every few seconds and missing the seven-day scan window can ban a user from joining another Family or Duo plan for 12 months. » More on theverge.com
