U-Haul posts FY2026 earnings decline as fleet depreciation rises, board approves $350m buyback
U-Haul reported a Q4 loss of $128 million and full-year earnings of $83 million, down from $367 million a year earlier, driven largely by higher depreciation on cargo vans and box trucks. Adjusted EBITDA for moving and storage increased, but fleet depreciation and replacement economics pressured GAAP results; management said depreciation growth has begun to slow and plans no truck fleet growth next fiscal year. Fiscal 2026 net equipment purchases were $1.38 billion and CapEx included expansion of U-Box and toy-hauler trailers; expected net new purchases are forecast to decline by about $560 million next year. The board authorized a $350 million share repurchase plan, while self-storage occupancy and rent-up trends are gradually improving after a delinquency cleanup. » More on finance.yahoo.com
U-Haul controls 8.7 million square meters of storage space and generates strong free cash flow
U-Haul dominates the US DIY moving business with over 50% market share, a fleet of more than 192,000 trucks and around 21,000 locations. In self-storage the company controls 8.7 million square meters of rentable space, which offers margin potential as occupancy rises. Free cash flow recently jumped nearly 200% to $1.45 billion, supported by demand from Generation Z and higher retirement-related mobility. Risks include high family ownership, low dividends, fleet costs and weather exposure; possible catalysts for a re-rating are increased distributions, buybacks or a business split. » More on de.investing.com
U-Haul misses Q1 2026 earnings target, but revenue and stock rise

However, revenue exceeded forecasts, rising to $1.63 billion, and the stock gained 2.65% after the results were released. The 'U Box' segment showed particularly strong growth with a 16% increase in revenue, despite higher costs and ongoing market challenges. » More on de.investing.com
