Qinetiq gains after political shift; shares climb on defence-spending expectations

Qinetiq shares rose intraday by around 3.5% to 468p, driven by the political change: John Healey’s appointment as chancellor of the exchequer has strengthened market expectations of significantly higher UK defence spending. Analysts view the decision as positive for the defence sector, while a policy to favour UK suppliers in procurement would give Qinetiq an additional advantage. QinetiQ returns to profit, raises outlook and dividend

For the year to 31 March 2026 QinetiQ reported a pre-tax profit of £155.1m after a loss in the prior year, and an adjusted pre-tax profit of £229.6m. Adjusted EBITDA rose to £343.7m and the order book stands at around £5bn. Management signalled a focus on higher‑margin areas, upgraded guidance for 2027, raised the dividend and will continue buybacks; Klear Kite increased its stake to 15.08%. QinetiQ completes £50m buyback and launches second £50m tranche

QinetiQ has completed an initial share buyback of £50m and immediately started a second tranche of a further £50m. The second tranche is to be carried out by 31 March 2026; execution has been agreed with Deutsche Numis, which will make trading decisions independently.
