Tepco brings reactor at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa back online and faces decommissioning problems in Fukushima
Tepco was allowed for the first time to restart a reactor at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa plant, while across Japan 15 of 33 still-operable reactors are back on the grid. At the same time, Tepco is struggling with delays in decommissioning Fukushima Daiichi; the complete recovery of the melted fuel has been pushed into the 2037s or later and decommissioning is planned through 2051. The restart comes against a backdrop of fading memory of the 2011 disaster and continued public concern about future earthquake risks. » Más en finanzen.net

Tepco stopped the restart of reactor 6 at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant a few hours after it began because of a fault in the control rods. According to the operator there is no safety risk; the reactor is being shut down for a more detailed inspection. A new start date has not yet been set, although reactor 6 could supply about 1.35 million kilowatts and thus power more than one million households. » Más en rnd.de

The government and analysts view the move as an important turning point for Japan’s resumption of nuclear energy and for securing decarbonized energy sources. » Más en n-tv.de
