Atlas Salt: financing crucial for Great Atlantic Salt Project

Atlas Salt presents its Great Atlantic Salt Project as a potential first new North American salt mine in roughly 30 years, targeting annual production of 4 million tonnes (about 10% of the North American de-icing salt market). The feasibility study envisions capital expenditures of CAD 589 million and average annual after-tax free cash flow of CAD 188 million, with a shallow, dry deposit and a nearby deep-water port expected to reduce capital and operating costs. The biggest remaining hurdle is financing: Atlas Salt is targeting 60–70% senior debt (about CAD 400 million expected) and seeks to limit equity dilution to 10–20%; Export Development Canada has pledged around CAD 150 million.
