US President Donald Trump announces plans to impose a 50 percent import tariff on aircraft manufactured in Canada and to revoke US approvals for Bombardier and other Canadian jets. He says Canada has denied operating permits to Gulfstream models, thereby hindering their sale. The NTSB recommended the FAA require operators of 10 Bombardier Learjet models to ensure the main landing gear is correctly attached, citing a fatal Feb. 10 Scottsdale runway accident and three prior disconnections caused by a retaining bolt not engaging an aft pin. The recommendation would cover 1,883 aircraft currently in service and follows a Bombardier service bulletin; only 12% of airplanes have been inspected so far. Melrose Industries has appointed Guy Hachey with immediate effect as a non-executive member of the board of directors. Hachey brings more than 30 years of experience in aerospace, defence and industry, including roles at Bombardier Aerospace, Advent International, Delphi (now Aptiv), General Motors, as well as board positions at Hexcel and formerly Meggitt.
