Cineplex to challenge $39-million fine over online booking fees before Supreme Court
Cineplex said it will appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada after the Federal Court of Appeal upheld a $39-million penalty. The fine stems from a September 2024 ruling and concerns disclosure of online booking fees for movie tickets; the company stresses the fees were always clearly displayed. Cineplex, Canada’s largest movie-theatre operator, is trading at $15.37, reported no profit over the past 12 months according to InvestingPro, and has a market capitalization of about $92.21 million. » Plus sur de.investing.com
S&P lowers outlook for Cineplex to negative due to high leverage
S&P Global Ratings has changed Cineplex’s outlook from “stable” to “negative” but affirmed the B+ rating. The move reflects a high adjusted leverage ratio (around 6.0–6.5x), weaker film slate and below‑average EBITDA despite slightly rising attendance and spend per patron. S&P expects Q4 revenue growth of about 8% and forecasts that leverage will remain around 6.0x through end‑2025; a downgrade by mid‑2026 is possible if leverage does not fall below 5.0x or free operating cash flow to debt does not rise above 5%. » Plus sur de.investing.com
