PPC Group launches joint venture with METLEN for 1,500 MW battery storage in Southeast Europe

PPC Group and METLEN Energy & Metals have agreed to a 50:50 joint venture to develop energy storage of up to 1,500 MW / 3,000 MWh in Romania, Bulgaria and Italy. Projects with a combined capacity of 1,000 MW are to be realized within 12 months, using liquid‑cooled two‑hour battery systems based on lithium‑iron phosphate. PPC will contribute project development and energy management, METLEN will handle construction; the facilities will be located close to renewable generation to store surplus energy from PV and wind parks.
