Members of SK Hynix’s union narrowly rejected a provisional collective bargaining agreement after about two months of talks (7,535 against, 7,510 in favor). The agreement included a 6.3% wage increase and a bonus structure with 40% paid in cash and 60% in company shares; the share component could have been sold off in stages. The rejection brings the parties back to the negotiating table, is likely to put the bonus structure at the center of talks, and led to a roughly 1.5% fall in the share price to 1.646 million won, while the KOSPI edged up slightly. SK Hynix will repurchase about 24.07 million shares (3.3% of issued stock) over roughly three months using a 40 trillion won cash program and will cancel all repurchased shares. The company also raised its 2025–2027 shareholder-return framework to commit over 50% of cumulative free cash flow to returns, with details to be approved at the Q3 board meeting. South Korean export data for July point to a strong performance by Samsung Electronics in the HBM business, with quarter-on-quarter exports in South Chungcheong up 122 percent. Bernstein estimates Samsung's HBM revenue could rise about 80 percent quarter-on-quarter in Q3 2026, well above previous forecasts. By contrast, exports from North Chungcheong and Icheon, SK Hynix sites, fell roughly 27 percent both month-on-month and quarter-on-quarter, and Bernstein predicts SK Hynix's HBM revenue could drop about 20 percent quarter-on-quarter due to delayed HBM4 shipments.
