SMA Solar has opened an €80m manufacturing plant with over 60 GW of annual capacity to handle strong incoming orders. As of 30 June the order backlog stood at around €1.8bn versus €1.2bn a year earlier, driven mainly by storage solutions. The "Gigawatt Factory" is intended to produce equipment for large solar and energy projects and, at full capacity, reach more than 60 gigawatts of annual output.
