Trainline falls about 15% after UK competition authority opens formal probe

Trainline shares plunged around 15% after the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched a formal investigation into whether mandatory fees were being hidden in the Trainline app and on the website. Trainline share plunges after CMA probe over pricing

The UK competition authority, the CMA, has opened a formal investigation into Trainline over transparency of price displays in its app and website and is examining possible use of “drip‑pricing”. The stock then fell about 14% to 208.98p. Under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 the CMA can impose substantial fines and require refunds; a recent precedent was a £4.2m fine for drip‑pricing.
