HHLA: warning strikes hit port operations and increase pressure for automation

Verdi is carrying out 48-hour warning strikes in the ports after union members rejected an employer offer of 5.1 percent over 18 months. A 48‑hour warning strike has begun in Hamburg, involving employees at HHLA container terminals Altenwerder, Burchardkai and Tollerort. Verdi is demanding 8.2% more pay in the wage negotiations (at least €2.50 per hour) after rejecting the employers' offer of 5.1% backdated to 1 August. HHLA: second warning strike announced at the Port of Hamburg

The trade union Verdi has announced a second 48-hour warning strike at the Port of Hamburg, to begin with the late shift on Wednesday and affecting employees at several HHLA container terminals. Verdi rejected the offer from the Zentralverband der deutschen Seehafenbetriebe (5.1% retroactive from 1 August for 18 months, at least €1.20/hour) and is demanding 8.2% or at least €2.50/hour for twelve months.
