Fincantieri expands underwater division with four acquisitions for around €600 million

Fincantieri is acquiring Next Geosolutions, Wsense, Graal Tech and Defcomm to build a leading position in the growing underwater business, for uses such as defense, infrastructure maintenance and underwater drones. The transactions cost around €600 million, largely financed by the February capital increase, and bring together 1,500 specialists across several countries. Fincantieri shares fall 40% despite record order backlog and margin improvement

Fincantieri reported a 10.1% decline in revenue for Q1 2026 to €2.1bn, but delivered EBITDA of €159m (margin 7.4%) and reduced net debt to €771m. The order backlog rose to a record €74.2bn; the company slightly raised full‑year guidance (revenue €9.3–9.4bn, EBITDA €700–710m). Fincantieri strengthens underwater division through M&A strategy

Fincantieri is selectively considering mergers and acquisitions to expand its position in the underwater business. Separately, Romania and Greece have expressed interest in participating in the European Patrol Corvette project, which would broaden the multinational initiative.
