Lincoln National shares jumped about 7% in premarket trading after the company reported adjusted EPS of $2.24 for Q2 (consensus ~ $2.00) and operating income rose 3% to $439 million. At the same time Lincoln announced a $5.8 billion reinsurance agreement with Talcott Financial that cedes roughly 37% of the remaining statutory reserves from guaranteed universal life policies and about $500 million of financing receivables. The transaction has a regulatory capital impact of roughly $200 million and is being viewed as a move to strengthen the capital base that could allow the resumption of share buybacks.
