Rite Aid closes all U.S. stores after repeated bankruptcies

After filing for bankruptcy twice in two years, national pharmacy chain Rite Aid announced in October that it would shutter all of its locations, citing sluggish sales and high legal and operating costs. The closure follows a broader 2025 wave of retail failures that saw over 8,100 store closures nationwide, including major names such as Forever 21, Joann Fabrics, Party City and Bargain Hunt. Rite Aid puts brand, domains and private labels up for sale after closing all stores

After closing all remaining stores following two bankruptcy filings, Rite Aid has hired Hilco Global to sell its consumer IP, including the Rite Aid brand, RiteAid.com domain, and private-label brands and certain loyalty data; prescription files are not included. Bids are due by the end of the month with an auction set for Nov. 6 and the sale subject to U.S. Bankruptcy Court approval.
