Suez says more than 6 million vapes and pods are still thrown away weekly in the UK despite a ban, overwhelming recycling sites and driving a surge in lithium‑battery fires. In 2025 Suez recorded 670 fires at UK sites, with batteries or vapes confirmed or suspected in over 80% of cases, and estimates the issue costs around £1bn a year to manage.
