Telefónica cuts 1,100 jobs and closes 60 shops – savings target €180 million from 2028

Telefónica in Germany plans to cut around 1,100 jobs and close 60 proprietary shops by the end of 2026 to achieve annual savings of about €180 million starting in 2028. Despite these measures, revenue and profit continue to decline, affected by the loss of 1&1 customers and ongoing discounting. Telefónica may not unilaterally terminate customer contracts early

The Higher Regional Court of Bamberg prohibited Telefónica from using a standard contract clause that granted the provider a unilateral right to terminate with one month’s notice even during the minimum term for unlimited tariffs. The judges found the clause to be an unreasonable disadvantage to consumers and rejected the argument that customers could benefit from early terminations. Reference to the EU code (EECC) did not help Telefónica; review under German law remains applicable and leave to appeal was denied. » Altro su heise.de
OLG Bamberg stops Telefónica's right to arbitrarily terminate flat-rate customers

The Higher Regional Court (OLG) Bamberg ruled that Telefónica may not rely on the contract clause in its terms and conditions that allowed it to cancel the O2 Mobile Unlimited Max and O2 Mobile Unlimited Smart tariffs at any time for heavy usage. The Verbraucherzentrale Hamburg sued against the provision after Telefónica refused to sign a cease-and-desist declaration.
