According to insiders, Richemont is in talks about joining the Global Diamond Consortium (GDC), which is the preferred bidder for diamond producer De Beers, put up for sale in 2024. The consortium, led by Gareth Penny and including Namibia, Angola and major producers, is negotiating from a “very strong position” over a takeover valued at about $1 billion. A stake would give Richemont greater control over its supply chain; GDC, Signet and Richemont declined to confirm takeover interest.
