Loan volume rose to €232.0 billion, deposits to €253.0 billion, and the group is targeting a net profit of around €4 billion and loan volume of about €285 billion for 2026. Erste Group, together with A1 Telekom Austria and Vienna-based quantum startup Zerothird, has integrated quantum encryption into its existing fiber-optic network and successfully tested it during live banking operations. The aim is to gradually convert international infrastructure to quantum-secure links, notably a physically demanding connection between Vienna and Frankfurt under the “Quapital” project, which also involves the EU.
