The activist hedge fund Palliser Capital has urged Toto to place greater emphasis on its specialty ceramics business for chip production and to increase investment there. Japanese bathroom fixtures maker TOTO opened a new $224 million, three-floor manufacturing plant in Morrow, Georgia, boosting U.S. production by nearly 50% and starting production this fall. The facility, on more than 363,000 sq. ft., is expected to generate about $43 million for Clayton County’s economy and is described as the company’s most advanced U.S. factory to date.
