PUTNAM COUNTY, NY — The new Patterson trailhead of the Empire State Trail was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday. County Executive Kevin Byrne, Legislator Ginny Nacerino, Deputy Supervisor of Patterson Sean Rogan, and a number of other officials met at the new trailhead, located at 629 Route 311 in Patterson (sharing an entrance with Liberty Paintball). This County-led project was made possible by the hard work of the County’s Department of Planning and Department of Public Works, Byrne said. "It required participation and collaboration from a lot of stakeholders," he said, naming also the County Legislature, Town Hall and a local property owner. "We're very grateful for all the support." New parking spaces and a connection to the adjacent Maybrook Trailway (from Brewster to Pawling) have been constructed, with the trailhead now accessible for persons with disabilities and with features such as signage and pedestrian amenities. The trailhead is a combination of pavement and gravel with the trail connection at NY 311 being concrete. The Empire State Trail was launched in 2017 to promote outdoor recreation, support communities and bolster tourism-related economic development.
