Arctic Fish salmon escape threatens Icelandic wild stocks

About 3,500 farmed salmon escaped from an Arctic Fish open-pen farm off Patreksfjörður and have been reported in multiple northwest rivers, with many individuals already sexually mature. Scientists warn interbreeding could irreversibly alter wild salmon life cycles and increase juvenile mortality, and escaped fish also risk spreading sea lice and disease. Lerøy Seafood Group ASA records strong biological development despite falling salmon prices

Lerøy Seafood Group ASA reports operating EBIT of NOK 680m and revenue of NOK 8,826m for Q2 2025; the farming segment benefited from high survival rates, better quality and record harvests but was weighed down by significantly lower salmon prices. The VAPS&D segment delivered a record result and partly offset the declines, while the company confirmed its 2025 harvest volume guidance of 195,000 GWT and continues to invest in containment technology and biology.
