Stellantis has signed a letter of intent with Canadian armored vehicle manufacturer Roshel for the possible sale of its idled assembly plant near Toronto (Brampton). The company sees Roshel as a promising option to resume sustainable operations at the plant. At the same time, collective bargaining talks with the union Unifor are stalled; the current contract expires on September 20 and negotiations have been suspended for now. Stellantis is working with Chinese industrial robot maker UQI Robotics to further develop the autonomous delivery vehicle Box-on-Wheels. The project will initially focus on Europe; additional international markets and automated last-mile solutions are to be considered later. UQI, a joint venture of Ubtech and Miracle Automation, plans to collaborate on an end-to-end logistics system combining autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa said the global automotive market is clearly split into the US and the rest of the world. For the US, Stellantis is relying entirely on domestic engineering and is developing market-appropriate vehicles there, while in other regions it is entering partnerships with manufacturers such as Leapmotor and Dongfeng.
