Churchill China records decline in sales and profits in first half

For the six months to 30 June, Churchill China reported sales of £37.4m (−2.9%) and operating profit before exceptional items of £2.3m (−17.9%). Profit before tax and exceptional items fell 19.4% to £2.5m, and profit after tax dropped 26.1% to £1.7m; earnings per share were 15.3p (adjusted 16.8p). Europe and the USA were slightly ahead of last year, while the UK hospitality sector (−3.3%) and material sales (−16.5%) were weaker; the company cites higher inventory and distribution costs as the main cause.
