Duke Energy seeks $809 million rate increase after winter storm
Duke Energy has asked the North Carolina regulator to recover about $809 million in fuel and purchased power costs incurred during an extreme cold snap in late January/early February. The company is seeking $500 million for Duke Energy Carolinas and $309 million for Duke Energy Progress, and proposes spreading the recovery over 19 months instead of 12. If approved, residential customers using 1,000 kWh per month would see roughly $6.90 (Carolinas) or $7.88 (Progress) added to their monthly bill starting June 1. » More on de.investing.com
Duke Energy positioned for steady growth and dividend stability
Duke Energy is presented as America’s largest regulated electric utility with predictable cash flows from 8.9 million electric and 1.7 million gas customers, benefiting from renewables, nuclear and large grid investments. Strategic moves such as a $6 billion sale of a Brookfield stake in Florida and a planned Carolinas utility merger aim to improve efficiency and fund a $16 billion five‑year capex program. The company pays a $4.26 annual dividend (3.53% yield) backed by a ~67% payout ratio and 20 years of increases, while projected 3–4% load growth from data centers and industrial projects supports modest upside. Key risks include regulatory execution and leverage levels that could affect the steady, income‑focused investment profile. » More on finance.yahoo.com
