NextEra Energy wins $1.9 billion DOE loan to restart Duane Arnold nuclear plant
NextEra Energy secured up to $1.9 billion in financing from the U.S. Department of Energy to support the restart of the Duane Arnold Energy Center, with operations targeted to resume in early 2029 pending Nuclear Regulatory Commission approval. The project already has a 25-year power purchase agreement with Google for the plant's 615 MW output, and the DOE loan reduces near-term funding pressure. The planned restart underpins NextEra's strategy to serve rising electricity demand from data centers and is complemented by the proposed merger with Dominion, but it remains exposed to regulatory, execution and AI-demand risks. » More on finance.yahoo.com
NextEra Energy targets large-load data center deals with 21 GW pipeline and rate-base capex
NextEra Energy's Florida Power & Light unit has about 21 GW of large-load interest, with 12 GW in advanced talks and at least one tariff-based large-load transaction expected by year-end. Each gigawatt of load is projected to represent roughly $2 billion of regulated capex that earns allowed returns, supporting EPS growth and a NEER backlog of ~35.1 GW; the Duane Arnold nuclear restart remains on track by Q1 2029. The regulated model shields returns from merchant power volatility but the pending Dominion combination and clean-energy policy create regulatory risks. » More on finance.yahoo.com
NextEra Energy secures financing for up to 10 GW of gas-fired power plants in Texas and Pennsylvania
NextEra Energy has reached agreements with the US Department of Commerce and the government of Japan that secure financing for the development and operation of up to 10 gigawatts of natural-gas-fired power capacity in Texas and Pennsylvania. The projects are part of Japan’s $550 billion investment pledge to the US; the first funding tranche of $3.3 billion is being released now and covers development tasks such as deposits for turbines and selection of EPC contractors. Construction is scheduled to begin, with initial capacity expected online by the end of 2028 and full completion planned for 2032; the projects remain subject to permitting and regulatory conditions and are expected to create numerous construction and permanent jobs. » More on de.investing.com
