At the Jefferies conference, International Paper presented a realignment toward its North American packaging business and is preparing the spin-off of its European operations. Management emphasized restructurings, asset sales and reinvestments to improve costs and reported about $700m of EBITDA improvement in North America from cost cuts. Capex remains high for now at 9–9.5% of sales, but is expected to fall to around 7.5% long term; demand is likely to remain subdued through 2027, while price adjustments and tighter supply should support margins. Collins brings 30+ years in asset management and sustainable investing, having built Putnam's sustainable investment business and founded Honeybee Capital. Ryerkerk has 40+ years in energy, chemicals and materials, most recently as chairman, president and CEO of Celanese, and serves on several other corporate boards.
