MTN Group: strong organic growth and record margins drive first half of 2026
MTN reports H1 2026 constant-currency service revenue growth of 17.5%, adjusted earnings per share up 21.3%, free cash flow up 66% and equity free cash flow up 32.7%. The EBITDA margin reached its highest level since around 2012 after accounting changes, driven by data services, while fintech growth of 13.3% lagged expectations. Reported earnings were weighed down by non-cash impairments (including Irancell), currency losses and hyperinflation; management reaffirmed the medium-term guidance and plans further investment and fintech expansion. » More on de.investing.com
S&P raises outlook for MTN Group to positive
S&P Global Ratings has raised its outlook for MTN Group from “stable” to “positive” and affirmed the issuer ratings at BB‑ (global) and zaAA+ (national South Africa). The move is justified by declining country risks after positive rating actions for South Africa and Nigeria, although the strong concentration in those markets (around 60% of EBITDA in 2025) continues to limit the ratings. S&P expects EBITDA margin to recover to 44–46% in 2025–2026, adjusted EBITDA to rise to about 99 billion ZAR (2025) and 115 billion ZAR (2026), and operating cash flow–to–debt metrics to improve markedly. MTN has sharply reduced its foreign‑currency debt and, despite high investments and dividend payments, is expected to generate positive discretionary free cash flow. » More on de.investing.com
