Optimum Communications has signed a multi‑year agreement with T‑Mobile securing access to the 5G‑standalone network and expanded device compatibility. This enables Optimum to offer connectivity for smartphones, wearables, tablets and other devices; the company has already exceeded 700,000 mobile connections. T-Mobile CEO Srini Gopalan said the danger posed by satellite providers like Starlink to mobile operators is being overstated and questioned what market gap they would fill. He urged mobile carriers to focus on customer needs and what differentiates their services. SpaceX, according to statements by Elon Musk and Gwynne Shotwell, plans its own mobile service with Starlink mobile satellites and aims to start by the end of 2027, but Gopalan expects satellite technology to complement existing networks.
