A jury in the US District Court for Delaware found that ARM breached obligations under the Architecture License Agreement (ALA) toward Qualcomm and unlawfully interfered with Qualcomm’s business with Meta, but awarded Qualcomm only symbolic damages of $1 each. At the same time, the jury decided that ARM did not breach TLA obligations for standard designs. Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon expects that locally running AI agents, which operate apps autonomously and understand user context, will give users an incentive to switch devices. AI companies, he says, are calling to have models with at least 100 billion parameters run permanently on smartphones by 2028; current premium chips support models with over 30 billion parameters.
