  • Roche buys AI capabilities from small biotechs to accelerate drug research

Large pharmaceutical companies like Roche are entering collaborations and acquisitions with specialized AI biotechs to quickly gain access to platforms, data and research capacity. Examples include the Roche/Genentech partnership with Recursion, for which Roche made a $150 million upfront payment in 2021 and agreed on up to 40 projects, as well as investments and collaborations by other players such as Nvidia and Novartis. AI mainly speeds up early development stages like target identification and molecule design, while clinical approvals have so far rarely been based entirely on AI-discovered drugs. » More on golem.de

  • Roche presents promising phase II data on weight‑loss drug Enicepatide

New study data show that Enicepatide produced significant weight loss and improved blood sugar control in people with diabetes. The effect at the highest dose in the phase II trial was of a similar magnitude to competitors, although no direct head‑to‑head comparison was made. For Roche, Enicepatide is a strategic move into the highly contested obesity drug market; what now matters are larger, longer trials versus the established agents from Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly. » More on finanzen.net

  • Roche receives accelerated FDA review for drug fenebrutinib

Roche has submitted a regulatory application to the FDA for fenebrutinib to treat relapsing and primary progressive multiple sclerosis; the agency granted a Priority Review. Approval is based on three Phase III trials: Fenhance 1 and 2 showed reductions in annualized relapse rate of 51% and nearly 59%, respectively, versus teriflunomide, and a positive trend toward delaying disability progression. In Fentrepid, fenebrutinib achieved non‑inferiority versus Ocrevus in primary progressive MS and numerically slowed disability progression by an additional 12%. The safety profile was assessed as manageable in more than 2,700 participants. » More on finanzen.net
