Unum Group agreed to cede $3.8 billion of long-term care statutory reserves to Fortitude Re, bringing total reinsured LTC reserves to $7 billion and cutting its LTC exposure by about 40% since the start of last year. The deal, effective April 1, 2026 and expected to close in 2026 subject to approvals, reduces total LTC statutory reserves from $14.8 billion to roughly $11 billion and removes remaining individual LTC from Fairwind. The transaction will use $650 million of holding company excess capital while Unum keeps its planned 2026 capital return program of about $1.3 billion in dividends and share repurchases.
