Valaris shares jump after Transocean agrees all-stock takeover; Moerus cites it as top contributor
Valaris surged after a Feb. 9 announcement that Transocean would acquire the offshore driller in an all‑stock deal priced at about a 32% premium to Valaris' prior close. Moerus Worldwide Fund, which added Valaris in early 2025, named the stock its largest individual contributor to H1 2026 performance. Valaris closed around $86.74 on Sept. 7 with a market cap near $6.03 billion amid continued hedge fund interest. » More on finance.yahoo.com
Valaris swings to profit as drillships return, Middle East costs weigh
Valaris reported Q2 revenue of $539 million, net income of $47 million and adjusted EBITDA of $97 million as two drillships returned to paid work and two more are due by year-end. War-related Middle East costs and insurance reduced adjusted EBITDA by about $30 million, while jackup revenue fell and contract drilling expenses rose. The company sold two long-stacked jackups for $74 million, booked $11 million in merger costs for the pending Transocean combination expected in Q4 2026, and ended the quarter with $541 million in cash. Management expects Middle East cost pressure to ease as idled rigs return to work, which will determine if the turnaround continues. » More on finance.yahoo.com
Valaris shows signs of cooling after strong rally as investors take profits
Antipodes highlighted that Valaris fell back amid softer oil prices and reduced sentiment for energy services after a strong year-to-date rally tied to a proposed Transocean acquisition. Investors booked gains while regulatory approvals and integration milestones remained pending, and concerns about slower contract awards and moderating day rates weighed on the stock. Valaris closed at $77.21 on August 6, 2026, with a one-month return of 0.72%, a 52-week gain of 65.94% and a market cap of $5.35 billion; hedge fund holdings declined from 62 to 52 quarter-over-quarter. » More on finance.yahoo.com
