GrafTech raises prices for graphite electrodes by 30%
GrafTech announced a price increase for graphite electrodes of at least 30%, effective immediately for all open negotiations. The company cites sharply lower market prices over the past three years alongside higher raw material, energy and logistics costs and the need for investments in production capacity. The measure complements earlier price adjustments and cost cuts, including headcount reductions and the planned closure of the Monterrey plant, and is part of a broader strategy to address structural challenges. » More on de.investing.com
GrafTech closes Monterrey plant and cuts annual graphite electrode capacity
GrafTech will permanently halt production at its Monterrey, Mexico, plant, expected in early Q2 2027, and will reduce annual graphite electrode capacity by about 51,000 tonnes to 127,000 tonnes. In addition, 16,000 tonnes will be removed at the Pamplona site through a change in the production mix. The company expects annual cost savings of US$20–25 million (full effect from 2028), a one‑time cash release of US$20–25 million, and one‑time restructuring costs of US$20–25 million. Customers served from Monterrey will in future be supplied from Calais and Pamplona; the North American sites in Seadrift and St. Marys will remain in operation. GrafTech cites structural overcapacity in the industry from expansion in China and India, which has led to intensified competition and margin pressure. » More on de.investing.com
