Hitachi Construction Machinery trials fully electric haul truck at Kansanshi mine

Hitachi Construction Machinery, in partnership with ABB, has developed and trialed the first fully electric haul truck at First Quantum's Kansanshi copper-gold mine since June 2024. The truck runs on batteries on flat ground, draws power from a trolley uphill and uses regenerative braking downhill to recharge, reducing energy use and avoiding charging stops.
