  • Intersport reports sharp rise in demand for winter equipment due to cold weather

Intersport reports an unusually strong increase in demand across all categories, with double-digit gains for alpine skis and ski boots and about 50% more sales of sleds/toboggans compared with the previous year. Decathlon confirms high customer traffic and strong online demand, while DIY chains such as Obi and Toom are selling increased volumes of de-icing salt, snow shovels and ice scrapers. Overall, retailers were largely able to meet demand, though there were regional, temporary shortages of certain products and severely reduced sled stocks. » More on n-tv.de

  • Intersport launches superstore concept and targets Decathlon in the discount segment

Intersport has opened its first 2,500 m² superstore in Halle with a 20–30% private-label share and has tailored the assortment to price-sensitive Decathlon customers. More superstores in eastern Germany are planned; Intersport aims to open at least two more this year and is targeting 100 new stores and €6 billion in sales by 2030. The concept is intended to defend market share against growing discounter offerings after Intersport recently stagnated while Decathlon continues to grow in Germany. » More on wiwo.de

  • Consumer slump pushes Intersport external sales to €3.46 billion, no growth

The external sales of around 700 Intersport retailers in fiscal year 2024/25 were €3.46 billion, essentially flat versus the prior year; compared with the record sales in 2022/23 this is down by about one percent. Intersport therefore fell short of its own expectations and performed slightly worse than the overall market, citing weak consumer demand, a sluggish economy and intense competition as causes. Chief Financial Officer Thomas Storck reports a better result than the previous year despite difficult conditions, but did not disclose concrete profit figures. For 2026, CEO Alexander von Preen is confident, and Intersport is continuing its expansion strategy, aiming for around €6 billion in sales and at least 100 new stores by 2030. » More on de.investing.com
