Nikola after insolvency with $296 million in debt and only one remaining employee

Former electric-truck hopeful Nikola has laid off almost its entire staff after filing for insolvency; of 874 employees only the liquidating trustee Thomas Pitta remained. Since February 2025 losses have accumulated to more than $556 million; in November 2025 there were no revenues and instead a monthly loss of about $1.6 million was reported. The balance sheet shows negative equity of about $172 million on total liabilities of roughly $296 million; Nikola recently sold assets such as environmental credits.
