AMP rises after strongest half-year profit in four years and share buyback
Shares of Australian asset manager AMP rose about 13% this week, marking their best weekly performance in almost four months. AMP reported its highest half-year profit in four years and announced a share buyback program of A$150 million. AMP raises half-year profit by 57% on China partnerships and wealth management
AMP reported a statutory net profit of A$154m for the first half, up from A$98m a year earlier; revenue rose 4% to A$1.425bn. Adjusted profit climbed 32.8% to A$174m, driven by strong growth in the Partnerships & Group segment, with contributions from China up 107.4% to A$56m. The Platforms division improved its result by 15.1% to A$61m, while AMP Bank saw profit fall 33.3% to A$20m due to investment in the digital offering AMP Bank GO. Assets under management increased 8.9% to A$167.6bn. AMP posts strong half-year results and stock hits seven-year high
AMP shares rose 6.0% to A$2.31, reaching a seven-year high after the company reported convincing half-year results. Adjusted net profit after tax was AUD 174m (+33%), reported net profit was AUD 154m (+57%), above the consensus estimate of around AUD 142m and at the top end of the guidance of AUD 170–180m. The earnings contribution from the China-Life partnerships more than doubled to AUD 56m.
