Astroscale to have satellite bodyguards ready within three years
Astroscale proposes developing protective satellites as “bodyguards” for at-risk satellites and, according to Alex Godfrey, could have a launch-ready prototype in less than three years. The proposal follows repeated approaches by the Russian satellite Kosmos 2612 toward the radar satellite Iceye-X36. Godfrey cites costs of around €100 million per mission and advocates a joint European fleet so allies can each protect specific regions. Concrete operational details and contractual arrangements are still lacking, but talks are reportedly already underway. » More on heise.de
