Cathie Woods ARK buys Baidu and Alibaba, reduces US tech positions

The ARK ETFs of Cathie Woods strengthened their China positions on October 15, 2025, acquiring 111,281 Baidu shares worth $13.347 million and 75,541 Alibaba shares for $12.303 million. At the same time ARK reduced holdings in several US tech and defense names, including 302,280 Archer shares ($3.936 million), 61,880 Roblox shares ($8.247 million), as well as sales of Kratos, Palantir, Shopify, Teradyne and continued reductions in Brera Holdings. Macquarie raises Baidu price target to $176, cites AI pivot and hidden value

Macquarie upgraded Baidu to Outperform from Neutral and lifted its price target to $176 from $91, saying the market underestimates value from the company’s shift away from slowing search and advertising. The firm highlights AI cloud services, robotaxis and the in‑house Kunlun AI chip as new growth drivers, estimating Kunlun could represent about one‑third of Baidu’s valuation as shipments increase. Baidu bets on its own chips and reduces dependence on NVIDIA

According to reports, Baidu is using self-developed processors to train its Ernie AI models in order to cut reliance on NVIDIA chips. The stock rose about 15.7 percent in Hong Kong. Analysts view the in-house development as a strategic advantage for China’s semiconductor strategy and as a way to lower geopolitical risks.
